Books in the ‘Brook is a monthly reading series that aims to support and nurture the writing and reading community in and around Westbrook, Maine.

Books in the ‘Brook readings take place on the second Thursday of the month from 6 – 7 p.m. at Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main Street, Westbrook. We are grateful to our former hosts -Continuum for Creativity and Quill Books and Beverage – and delighted to be partnering with Walker Memorial Library for the 2019-2020 season.

Two writers are featured each month. An audience discussion follows their readings.

Local writers who read at Books in the ‘Brook in 2017 and 2018 include acclaimed crime fiction authors Chris Holm and Gayle Lynds, poets Betsy Sholl, Gibson Fay-LeBlanc and Alice Persons and non-fiction authors William David Barry and Joshua Bodwell.

Every year in May, a special reading is held to showcase the writing of area high school students.

The public is invited to attend Books in the ‘Brook, which is a free event. Books are available for purchase, and often light refreshments are available, thanks to the wonderful Friends of Walker Memorial Library.

We welcome you to join us!
